Safety and Security

Scripture:

Psalm 23:4-6

Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

John 10:28-29

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

Reflection:

Today I choose to feast on safety and security.

Safety and security are a gift from God that we experience most fully when we are focused on the Giver (God) rather than the gift itself. God does not always give safety and security in a material sense - we are not promised a comfortable life free from challenges. Instead, God offers the safety and security that comes from a loving relationship with the Creator. We find security knowing that God is always with us, God’s goodness will chase after us all the days of our lives, and that nothing can separate us from the love of God through Christ.

Questions for Personal Reflection:

How does knowing that I am secure in Christ change my perspective on fear and trust?

What are some ways that I can focus more on the Giver than the gift?

Prayer:

Thank God for the gift of safety and security in Him. Pray for the areas of your life where you struggle to trust and ask God to help you focus on His promises and presence in your life.
