Mistrust

Scripture:

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding

Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Reflection:

Today I choose to fast from the wound of mistrust.

Consider the people that you trust everyday without giving it a second thought - the barista who makes your coffee, the mechanic who keeps your car running, the transit operators who get you to your destination safely. Yet, when we are hurt, we are often quick to stop trusting others. Sometimes that is wise, but at other times it has deep impacts on our relationships and ways that we live in the world. We can be quick to mistrust God too, especially in challenging circumstances. Whenever we think that God can’t intervene, or doesn’t care, or isn’t present with us - that is mistrust. And yet, God does not abandon us in our mistrust. Instead, God wants to meet us there and carry us through, even before we learn to trust more fully.

Questions for Personal Reflection:

What relationship do I not trust? Why?

With what part of my life do I not trust God? Why?

Prayer:

Share with God those areas where trust has been broken in your life, including the areas where you struggle to trust God. Pray that God would help you to trust more fully and heal from any pain caused by broken trust in the past or present.
