Insecurity

Scripture:

Exodus 19:5

Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.

Romans 8:14-16

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Reflection:

Today I choose to fast from the wound of insecurity.

Insecurity is a form of fear that tells us we are not good enough, that we are not accepted or embraced. Those struggling with insecurity often believe that they are not worthy, welcome or secure. And while Scripture calls us to be humble, the feelings of unworthiness that come from insecurity are a step too far.

Insecurity keeps us on the sidelines of our life. It causes us to shrink from challenges or to overcompensate by striving too much. When you feel the pull of insecurity in your life, remember that God has already called you beloved and accepted. Remember the words of Romans 8:14-16 and cry out to your Father who is ready to hear you.

Questions for Personal Reflection:

What do I believe about myself and others when I feel like I don’t belong?

How do I react when I feel insecure?

Prayer:

Cry out to God, trusting that God cares deeply about you and has already accepted you. Share your feelings of insecurity with God. Ask for help to let go of those things that hold you back from believing that you are welcome, secure and acceptable before God.
